During the past couple of weeks and with greater intensity in recent days, the conservative media, along with Republican members of the US Senate and of the US Congress, has attacked the Obama Administration on the issue of the BP oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. The BP organization is ultimately the "at fault" party for this huge amount of polluting oil that has contaminated some of the Gulf and threatens various areas of the American seaside. However, BP has pledged to cure the problem; clean-up the mess; and reimburse Americans for provable loses. This is all we can expect and the role of Obama should be to assist BP as much as is needed and monitor closely all developments.
There is no question that Obama did not react quickly enough to this ecological mess; has been properly criticized; and has suffered some additional loss of public political support. He appears to have corrected his oversight and may have even over reacted. However, this oil spill is a relatively minor item when compared to major issues that have much longer confronted our nation. These are issues that Obama has also not properly addressed or made any perceivable progress in solving. These are issues that the conservative media needs to strongly pursue.
Most recently the US government released the up-to-date [that means April of 2010] figures as to which foreign nations America owes money. Our biggest creditor continues to be Communist China and we now owe it $900,200,000,000.00 [$900.2 Billion]. This debt figure to Communist China is greater than that reported last month and shows that Obama continues to rely on these Communists. To consider that any Communist nation is our ally is ridiculous and to allow any Communist nation to become a creditor, much worse the largest creditor, of our nation can only be seen as an act of political suicide. Yet we hear nothing from Obama as to how his Administration will address and solve not only this $900.2 Billion problem but all of our other foreign debts whose total exceeds the debt to Communist China.
Today the Obama Administration also released another piece of bad news, this time on the issue of new applications by Americans for unemployment benefits. As of June 12th, the most recent weekly closing date, some 470,000 new applications had been filed for benefits by out-of-work Americans. The official unemployment rate remains close to 10% while the more realistic but unofficial rate stays close to 17%. What has Obama done to solve this issue? Other than hiring a bunch of census employees who will work no more than 6 months and be paid with tax dollars, Obama has again done nothing constructive.
I am sad that the BP accident left pollution; left a number of Americans injured and, more tragic, left a number of Americans dead. However, BP appears to be dedicated to rectifying all negative aspects of the situation. I can't say the same about Obama as it pertains to the public debt and to the mass of American unemployed.
