The term "middle east" will soon be a euphemism for yet another Obama international error.
The United States military is currently attacking the nation of Libya and although the defined targets are units of the Gadhafi armed forces, there have been and will continue to be civilian causalities. This is unavoidable in any hostility as is seen almost weekly in reports from Afghanistan of civilian deaths from activity of American armed forces. Although the deaths of innocents and the destruction of civilian property are an unfortunate but expected consequence of any use of weapons of modern warfare, there will be finger pointing and cries of lack of respect directed at America.
What is more worrisome is the potential for an expansion of our military role in that part of the world. Besides Libya, there is civil unrest in Bahrain, Algeria, Yemen, Syria and to some degree in Egypt and Saudi Arabia. Most recently the group of protesters that are contesting the leadership of Bahrain has publicly requested that they be treated with the same respect and consideration as the revolutionaries of Libya. This respect, they claim, requires American military assistance in the efforts to replace the current government of Bahrain.
Where does it stop and who does America elect to back, with force, while ignoring others?
There is no winning this international situation. Already it appears that the Muslim Brotherhood will be assuming the leadership role in Egypt. The Muslim Brotherhood is openly anti-American and our decades of aid to Egypt will now be utilized against us. This is unfortunately a valid appraisal of what well could happen as other established Middle East governments are deposed.
By the way, the League of Arab States has attacked the USA for its military action in Libya and issued a demand that it cease all military activity in Libya.
As this Libya matter developes, Iran just smiles and sits back as does Russia and Communist China.
Obama, you screwed up again!
