THE 14 WISCONSIN TRAITORS

It is difficult to justify that only minor sanctions should be imposed on the those Wisconsin State Senators who have voluntarily exiled themselves from their home state in the hope of forcing pending legislative matters to be resolved in their political favor. The reaction by the citizens of Wisconsin, as well as all Americans, toward these Senators-in-hiding must be the attachment upon them of the stigma of being traitors to the American way of life.

When elections took place last November, the voters of Wisconsin rejected the liberal philosophy of a number of candidates seeking state office. Those losing office were Democrats. The result was that both legislative houses, as well as the governorship, became under the control of conservative Republicans. As the governing of Wisconsin by this new Republican leadership became an actual reality, the liberal Democrats soon realized that substantial changes were to be implemented. These substantial changes would impact many government employees, including educators, in such a manor that their applicable worker unions would lose a lot of their power. These "public employees" would, by law, be moved closer to primarily serving the needs of the citizens of Wisconsin and away from their selfish goals of serving first their own interests.

The old adage that the will of the majority shall rule was suddenly contrary to the goals of the liberals and so all of the 14 Democrats who had won Senate seats fled over the Wisconsin border. Their intent was to freeze the actions of their Senate in that the Republicans, although having an absolute majority, would be short one Senator in order to legally consider and vote on certain types of legislation. Fortunately, Governor Scott Walker and his Republican allies have been able to overcome the intended boycott and have to some degree moved forward with their conservative agenda. These well televised events have focused on the elected Democrats hiding in another state and their proponents mobbing the capital in an attempt to force liberal compliance no matter what the majority of voters in November had mandated.

The primary issue being faced in Wisconsin is not centered on the Republican victory over liberal Democrats but rather on the intentional actions of a political group to reverse the will of a majority of the citizens. These intentional acts are not taking the form of renewed election campaigns but rather an attempt to void the efforts of the government by desertion and intimidation.

These State Senate deserters need to be appropriately punished and their law violating supporters forced, if necessary by the police, to be civil and peaceful in their political protests.
