Another month; another country; and another humiliation for America.
The much heralded Obama Administration trip to the former Soviet Union for the purpose of establishing a dialogue between our President and the figurehead leader of Russia, Dmitry Medvedev, for the purpose of clearing nuclear weapon stockpiles resulted in a joint promise to explore such a treaty and an hour long lecture from the real leader of Russia. Our President sat in silent deference as Vladimir Putin educated him as to the history and politics of the "cold war". Russia has now joined the growing list of nations who have openly insulted American leadership.
A recap is sad but appropriate.
After becoming our 43rd President, Obama attended in person a meeting of the OAS. At this conference he was greeted by Hugo Chavez who presented him a book on Latin American politics and he instructed our President to read it. Chavez then referred to Obama as a "poor ignoramus". At the height of the recent Iranian election crisis, the government influenced media announced that Obama's "deep concerns" were meaningless because Obama had already surrendered to Iran with his offer to negotiate with no preset conditions. North Korea listened to the "deep concerns" of Obama and fired more missiles while raising its level of threats. Chinese students laughed out loud when Obama's representative claimed in a speech to them that investments in America were secure. Nothing in China is done without the prior consent or direction of the government. A Saudi prince received a submissive bow from Obama and Honduras ignored the directives of our President to allow exiled President Manuel Zelaya to return to Honduras and reclaim his leadership position.
Six months of Obama leadership have not yet passed and the economy is not only in its worst condition in decades but also the prestige of America and its leadership has diminished to a pre-World War I level.
